Hydronic Heating and Long Spans Add Up To A Terrific Insul-Deck Solution

Insul-Deck is the fast, lightweight, forming-system solution for concrete floor and roof construction. It comes pre-engineered, pre-cut, prelabeled and staged for quick and easy placement on site. The new home owner, Scott Martin, P. Eng. of Efficiency Engineering Inc., was quoted as saying, “When my wife and I started our design, our builder suggested that we look at your product. He felt that the Insul-Deck product would fit well with the large spans required for our open-concept home. After checking out your web site, we quickly realized the benefits of using your system.”

“It was a good fit with our hydronic, in-floor, radiant, heating system as well, the Martins said, “The in-floor heating is very comfortable. In fact, there were a few times this winter when one of the kids left the front door open. The door was open for some time before we noticed. The thermal mass and radiant heating of our floors kept everything comfortable even with the large heat loss out the door. The thermal mass has also kept our home very comfortable this spring and into the summer. We have yet to turn our air conditioning on. Of course, we are also enjoying the benefits of reduced noise between floors and no creaks.”

Insul-Deck is the fast, flexible and safe method to build a concrete floor or roof that saves labor, time and money. Experienced crews are installing panels and rebar support and pouring concrete in one minute per square foot.

“The first comment most guests have is about the floors. They don't believe that it is concrete.” Mr. and Mrs. Martin reported, “When we were in the design stage, we started investigating different floor coverings and ran across acid-stain flooring (Kemiko). The acid stain is applied directly to the concrete. We decided to go with the Kemiko acid stain with a hard wax coating. We also cut a tile pattern onto the floors with a skill saw and masonry blade. Our floors look spectacular, and with my wife and me applying it, it cost about 50 cents a square foot”

Any type of interior finish can quickly be mechanically attached to the integral steel furring strips with drywall screws. Insul-Deck is faster form-to-finish per square foot than any other process.

“The majority of our lighting is pot lights (a total of 34). These fit well between the Insul-Deck steel strips (1 and 4),” Scott Martin said.

Insul-Deck’s patented process integrates utility chases (2) within the forming system. Utilities are easier to install in pre-molded access chases (or channels). Insul-Deck’s patented process produces self-supporting, steel beams and furring strips molded into the ceiling. Insul-Deck offers a variety of insulation and roof or floor thicknesses. Form depths up to 12-1/2" produce deeper supporting ribs, which allow spans up to 30 feet (3).

For Insul-Deck you only have three steps: place, pour and finish. For pre-cast and pan and deck, you need a crane and/or have to remove the forms. With Insul-Deck: you pour it, you finish it - you can take it to the bank.
